Laura is the owner of Teaching Resources and a former 5th grade teacher from Fayetteville, North Carolina. Laura was a classroom teacher for 30 years, and she now spends her time creating books and resources for elementary educators.
While Laura was teaching, she was the recipient of the prestigious Milken Family Foundation Educator Award, and she received National Board Certification as a Middle Childhood Generalist. She has presented educational workshops online and around the country for over 20 years. She’s also the author of 10 books for teachers as well as over 500 digital teaching resources.
Laura is known for her active engagement strategies and cooperative learning lessons. She believes in teaching students to accept responsibility for their own behavior and learning. She uses many interactive strategies and hands-on math lessons. Laura is passionate about using the Reading Workshop approach to share the joy of reading with kids!
Laura has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. She loves learning new things and continues to enjoy reading professional resources. In addition to coursework, Laura has her National Board Certification as a Middle Childhood Generalist.
Now that Laura is retired, she enjoys spending time with her girls, traveling with her husband, hiking, camping, kayaking and just about anything outdoors.
